The Ribbon Cutting at Magee

A happy crowd turned out on Wednesday afternoon, 14 November 2018, for the ribbon cutting at the newly renovated Magee Rec Center and Magee Field.

Councilman Corey O’Connor and Mayor Bill Peduto prepared the big scissors.

They cut the ribbon with assistance from kids from Greenfield School.

We all joined the crowd waiting indoors.

Councilman O’Connor and Mayor Peduto gave brief speeches.

Jim Gregg thanked the City for the renovated facilities on behalf of Greenfield Baseball Association and especially for the new lights.  Now the kids will be able to play after sunset.

The facilities look great!  The basketball court is already in use.

The field is ready to go.  All we need is some good weather.

We can hardly wait for Spring!

New Magee Field Lights

This September the new ballpark lights were installed at Magee Field.  Both the old and new lights were in place for several days, shown above on Sept 20 by Pat Hassett.

The old lights were a favorite hunting perch of the local red-tailed hawks, shown below on July 15.

By October 4 the old lights were down and completely cleared from the field.  That afternoon a red-tailed hawk perched on several of the new poles. Apparently he approves of them … and so do we.

The Garbage Olympics Cleans Up

Twenty neighborhoods, including Greenfield, participated in the Garbage Olympics on Saturday the 22nd of September 2018.

The good news is that Greenfield didn’t have much trash.  Volunteers picked up 36 bags of trash and 15 tires but were far overshadowed by Beechview where they picked up 70 bags of trash, 5 TV’s, 1 refrigerator, and 1 bike.

And so it went in many other neighborhoods.  Greenfield didn’t win anything but we can brag that we are pretty clean.
