A Happy 4th at Magee Pool

A Big Thank You to the lifeguards and staff at Magee Pool for their annual Fourth of July water carnival.

Pool patrons were treated to free hot dogs, drinks and chips, and all the kids competed for prizes in water-themed games. The kids received Rita’s Italian Ice and bags of candy as they exited.

The event traditionally wraps up with the chance to throw a whipped cream pie plate at the lifeguards.

Thank you to the lifeguards, staff and head guard Hanna Marrone.

Greenfield Received 2018 BOB Award

Old news but good news.

In May, Greenfield received the 2018 “Neighborhood of the Year” Bob Award from the City of Pittsburgh’s Clean Pittsburgh Commission.

Since 2008, the Clean Pittsburgh Commission has held an annual Meet n Greet Mixer and Bob Awards to recognize the great local neighborhood leaders who go above and beyond to make their communities a better place to live through clean-up events and litter prevention education in City neighborhoods

The awards, named for former Mayor Bob O’Connor, are given for Volunteer of Year, Neighborhood of the Year, and Leader of Year.

Greenfield was nominated for all the great stuff our volunteers have done in recent years including the Greenfield Bridge/Portal, Murals, Gardens, Clean-ups and Painting, Signage, etc.

The award was presented by our City Council Representative Corey O’Connor & Mrs. O’Connor. They gave Greenfield excellent words of praise.

This is the 2nd time Greenfield has received the Bob Award award.  Good job everyone, and congratulations, Greenfield!

GCA volunteers help clean up in The Run, 14 April 2018

The weather was great last Saturday when volunteers helped outdoors at the annual GCA Spring Cleanup on April 14, 2018.

The cleanup focused on three areas:  The Run, Magee Field, and the garden at Ronald Street.  Here are David Cashmere’s photos from our very busy day.

Above, all ages participated in The Run.  Below, the Magee Field cleanup crew pauses for a photo.

Meanwhile, trees were being planted at the new Hassett Park next to the Greenfield Bridge.   The park’s namesake, Patrick Hassett, was on hand to watch.
