Making a Difference in Greenfield
Are you available one morning a week to help a neighbor in need?
Hazelwood-Greenfield Meals on Wheels, a program of Fishes & Loaves Cooperative Ministries, delivers to Greater Hazelwood, including Glen Hazel, and most of Greenfield.
The program is in need of delivery persons who are willing to drive or ride along one or more days of the week from 9:30 – 11/11:30 a.m. depending on the route length. Volunteers deliver in pairs.
The greatest need at the moment is for people who can go up and down stairs.
We are also in need of people willing to fill in as kitchen helpers when the need arises. Kitchen duty is from approximately 7:00-9:00 a.m.
Meals are cooked and delivered out of the Spartan Center (old St. Stephen’s School) at 134 E. Elizabeth St. in Hazelwood.
Meals on Wheels is a rewarding volunteer opportunity. Many of our consumers are frail or live alone so even the brief contact with a delivery person helps give them some social contact and make sure they are safe and well.
Please call the Meals on Wheels program at 412-499-4313 for more information. They’ll provide a brief orientation and handbook.
Volunteers must be willing to provide proof of car insurance if they drive and fill out clearance forms, which are free to submit, since we work with a vulnerable elderly population and our kitchen shares a building with a small school and youth programs.
